Chair Covers Will Last Forever If You Take Good Care Of Them

Chair covers are generally made of cloth with elastic bands at the back to tie it on chair. The chair cover must be removed when chair is not in use and stored properly i.e.  folded or wrapped in plastic bags. Chair covers can last up to years if you take good care of them; they do not need to be replaced frequently.

History 

Chair covers were first introduced to prevent chair from being damaged due to different functions organised in rooms. People used to use sheets or blankets but quickly realized that these items are not well fitted, easily removed and can damage chair itself if not handled properly. This led to invention of chair covers as a means of protecting chair from dents, scratches and protect it from stains.

There was need for something practical that will fit well on chair, will not damage chair and can be removed quickly. This is how chair covers became popular.

Chair covers are mostly made of cotton fabrics because they are inexpensive and easy to clean if they get dirty. However, do not wash chair cover on gentle cycle as fabric can be stretched at the time of being washed. Refrain from using fabric softener as chair covers cannot absorb any chemicals as it may damage the chair as well as chair cover. Softener might also change color of chair cover and give a look of worn-out chair if not used carefully.

Nowadays, chair covers are made of both cloth and plastic depending on the function it will be used for. Chair covers are easy to fit on chair but removing them after use may pose some difficulties until you get used them. 

How To Ensure Chair Covers Last For Long

• Ensure chair covers are clean by removing all spills immediately to prevent chair from being stained. If you notice any stains, remove it using mild soap and water before it dries up (note that hard stains may require expert’s attention).

• If chair cover is made of cloth, ensure the elastic band at the back is intact; replace if torn.

• If chair cover is made of plastic, ensure there are no cracks or tears; chair covers with cracks can destroy chair it used on and may leave chair exposed to dirt.

Storage 

Chair covers should be stored in dry place that is well ventilated. Storing chair covers in moist environment encourages growth of fungi that may damage the chair cover or chair itself. Chair covers should be stored in plastic bags to prevent moisture from damaging chair covers.

Chair covers are easily available at shops if you want them for your chair. However, before purchasing chair cover ensure it is fit for purpose; check what material has been used to make chair cover and how durable chair cover is. 

Ensure chair covers do not have tears or cracks to prevent chair from being exposed to dirt and damage chair itself. Remember chair covers will last forever if you take good care of them; they do not need to be replaced frequently.

By taking proper care chair covers, you will increase life of chair covers compared to chair that are not covered.
